Entrance Examination Steps

A. GENERAL POLICY

The General Legal Council (GLC) is the statutory body mandated to ensure proper standards in legal education and the legal profession. Entry into the Ghana School of Law (GSL) is by an Entrance Examination conducted by the Independent Examinations Committee (IEC) of the GLC.

B. EXAMINATION

The Entrance Examination for qualified applicants for admission into the Professional Law Course Programme at the Ghana School of Law for the 2025/2026 academic year, will take place on Friday 12th September, 2025 at 12:00 NOON. The examination will take place at two (2) Centres: ACCRA and KUMASI.  Applicants must indicate the Centre of choice when applying. Centres once selected cannot be changed

The list of applicants will be displayed on the on the IEC website at www.iec-glc.gov.gh

The duration of the Examination will be three (3) hours in the following core areas: Law of Contract, Law of Torts, Criminal Law, Law of Immovable Property, Constitutional Law and Ghana Legal Systems and Methods.

C. ELIGIBILITY

Persons eligible to write the Entrance Examination are:

    1. Persons who have obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) from the Schools/Faculties of Law of universities in Ghana accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), and approved by the General Legal Council (GLC); or
    2. Ghanaian holders of LLB or equivalent Law degrees from universities in the United States of America and common law jurisdictions, and who have obtained passes in all the prescribed subjects listed under Section B above as well as ‘Equity and Succession’.
    3. Candidates are to note that the above requirements are without prejudice to the eligibility criteria set out in Regulation 2 of the Legal Profession (Professional and Post-Call Law Course) Regulations 2018 (L.I.2355).

D. HOW TO APPLY

There are 2 parts of the application process that must be completed.

Part One:
Applicants should:

    1. Visit the website of the Independent Examinations Committee at www.iec-glc.gov.gh.
    2. Click on the ‘Entrance Examination’ button.
    3. Click on the ‘Purchase E-Voucher’ button.
    4. Purchase an e-voucher for a non-refundable fee of Two Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢200.00) via Mobile Money or Visa/Master card.

Part Two:
Applicants should:

    1. Visit the website of the Independent Examinations Committee at www.iec-glc.gov.gh.
    2. Click on the  Application Portal button.
    3. With the E-Voucher Code received on completion of Part One, proceed with the application for the Entrance Examination, after payment of the application fee of Five Hundred and Fifty Ghana Cedis (GH¢550.00) via Mobile Money or
      Visa/Master card.
    4. Ensure the following documents are uploaded with the application:
      1. Ghana Card.
      2. A completed downloaded GLC/IEC Declaration Form.
      3. A recently taken passport-sized photograph (not more than six months old).
      4. A certified True Copy of the applicant’s LLB Certificate.
      5. A certified True Copy of applicant’s final LLB transcripts.

 

On successful completion of the application process, an applicant will be sent via SMS and email, an Index Number to be used for the Entrance Examination.
